CURTISS-WRIGHT FLOW CONTROL & ROSEMOUNT NUCLEAR INSTRUMENTS SIGN AGREEMENT FOR INSTRUMENTATION PRODUCTS
Strengthens Obsolescence Solutions for Instrumentation and Controls Business
FALLS CHURCH, VA – December 6, 2012

Curtiss-Wright Flow Control Company’s Scientech business unit announced that it has entered into a Technology Assignment Agreement with Rosemount Nuclear Instruments, Inc. (RNII) to establish a continued source of supply and support for the Model 710 Trip/Calibration System line of instrumentation products. Under the agreement, Scientech will take over all design, manufacturing and field support for the 710 product line effective January 1, 2013.

The 710 product line is widely used in domestic Boiling Water Reactors (BWR) in safety-related applications.  Following RNII’s announcement of its decision to discontinue the line, the nuclear power industry expressed a need for continued support.  This agreement fills that need by providing repair, refurbishment services and newly manufactured products. The 710 product line will become part of Scientech’s product portfolio.

“This agreement to provide ongoing support for the 710 product line is a strong strategic fit with Scientech’s existing Instrumentation and Controls business, which specializes in supplying obsolescence solutions equipment and electrical instrumentation to the current installed base of operating nuclear reactors,” said David Linton, President, Curtiss-Wright Flow Control Company. “The addition of this product line will provide improved support to our BWR clients, while also expanding our ability to help solve obsolescence problems."

CURTISS-WRIGHT FLOW CONTROL RECEIVES CONTRACT FROM PROGRESS ENERGY
To Provide New Protection System for Crystal River Unit 3 Nuclear Power Plant
FALLS CHURCH, VA – July 21, 2011

Curtiss-Wright Flow Control Company announced today that its business unit Scientech has signed a contract with Progress Energy to provide a safety-related Inadequate Core Cooling Mitigation System (ICCMS) to support the extended power uprate at the utility's Crystal River Unit 3 nuclear power plant in Florida.

The new protection system uses only analog technology to perform safety functions, while providing modern computer-based online performance monitoring through an isolated, non-safety monitor. This combination of analog and digital technologies is designed to simplify the licensing process and reduce cyber-security concerns since no software is used to perform the safety-related functions of the system. The new system will be built at Scientech's Idaho Falls, ID, facility.

"Curtiss Wright sees this approach as providing a path forward for many operating nuclear plants," said David Linton, President, Curtiss-Wright Flow Control Company and Co-Chief Operating Officer, Curtiss-Wright Corporation. "The platform developed for the Crystal River ICCMS is the first analog solution in over 30 years. The analog-safety related portion is fully testable, easily understood, and easily licensed. Conversely, the digital non-safety portion provides state-of-the-art online performance monitoring and interface to digital systems without the need for testing or licensing."

INVENSYS EXTENDS SUPPLY AND SUPPORT OF FOXBORO SPEC200N FOR NUCLEAR POWER PLANTS
Strategic partnership with Curtiss-Wright Flow Control extends control excellence for nuclear industry
FALLS CHURCH, VA – NOV. 23, 2010

Invensys Operations Management, a global provider of technology systems, software solutions and consulting services to the manufacturing and infrastructure operations industries, announced today that it is extending the availability and support of its long-proven Foxboro® SPEC200N analog control system. To prolong the product’s lifecycle, Invensys has signed a multi-year agreement with Scientech, a business unit of Curtiss-Wright Flow Control Company. Under the agreement, Scientech will manufacture the SPEC200N product line from its Idaho Falls, Idaho, facility, as well as provide sustaining engineering services to Invensys. Exclusive customer sales and support for the SPEC200N product will continue to be provided by Invensys Operations Management.

The Foxboro SPEC200N analog electronic control system, initially installed in 1976 and deployed in more than 70 nuclear power plants, continues to be recognized for its outstanding reliability in both safety and non-safety-related applications.

“Even as Invensys provides digital instrumentation and control solutions for new nuclear power plants with our award-winning Triconex® 1E Tricon safety and Foxboro I/A Series® distributed control systems, for many existing plants the most cost-effective approach to re-licensing their operations is to extend the life of the analog control systems already in place until a modernization strategy can be implemented,” said Mike Chmilewski, vice president, control technology innovations and nuclear portfolio, Invensys Operations Management. “As part of our long-standing commitment to the nuclear power industry, we have enlisted the expertise of Scientech to support the SPEC200N Life Extension Program. This strategic partnership will extend our ability to supply the SPEC200N product line, helping to sustain control excellence for our clients in the nuclear industry.”

Extending support for the SPEC200N analog control system provides continuity of operations, allowing customers to bridge the lengthy design and re-licensing process that is required for safety-related digital instrumentation and control upgrades. Invensys is uniquely positioned to assist nuclear power plant operators in the upgrade process because the functionality of SPEC200N systems can be programmatically migrated to the company’s Triconex Tricon Class 1E digital safety platform.

“The Foxboro SPEC200N control system has been used for more than 30 years to control and protect more than 70 plants within the nuclear industry,” said David Linton, president, Curtiss-Wright Flow Control Company, and co-chief operating officer, Curtiss-Wright Corporation. “We look forward to being a strategic partner with Invensys in their continued support of the Foxboro SPEC200N product line, not only because of their history of enabling control excellence, but because the manufacture of the SPEC200N analog control system fits seamlessly with our re engineered replacements for other analog equipment lines produced at our Idaho Falls facility.”

Scientech Completes Procedure Upgrade Project at Callaway
30,000 man-hours complete 728 Operations Department Procedures
IDAHO FALLS, ID - April 12, 2006

In late 2004, Scientech submitted the successful bid to upgrade 728 Operations Department Procedures and incorporate all outstanding procedure action requests. The work commenced on January 3, 2005 and was scheduled to be completed on March 31, 2006. The project consisted of five major milestone dates:

  • April 1, 2005 for procedures required for training support
  • July 1, 2005 for procedures necessary to support Refueling Outage 13
  • November 1, 2005 for procedures required to support modifications installed during RF-13
  • December 1, 2005 for procedures required to support Callaway’s revised IST program
  • March 31 for the overall completion of the project.

After 15 months of intensive efforts, at 2:50 p.m. on March 30, 2006 the Scientech-Callaway procedure upgrade team approved the last procedure...over a day ahead of schedule. During this period the team worked over 30,000 man-hours and accomplished the following major project tasks:

  • Performed 1,094 procedure actions
  • Issued 1,028 procedures, appendices, and attachments
  • Upgraded 19,360 pages of procedures
  • Closed over 2,600 CARS (Callaway Action Request System)
  • Created over 1,200 checklists to support the upgraded procedures

AmerenUE CNO, Chuck Naslund is very pleased with the results of the Scientech led effort as were Pat McKenna (Callaway Superintendent Shift Support) and Bruce Brederman (Callaway Procedures Superintendent). INPO has started referring other sites to Callaway as a site with a good procedure program and good procedures. This is due in large part to the efforts of the Scientech upgrade team and Callaway support staff.

This momentous accomplishment demonstrates the power of successful “win-win” strategies where the vendor and client foster a team environment. A real team effort was required throughout the project to meet the milestones and especially during the last weeks as both Scientech and Callaway worked together and did whatever was required to finish “On schedule.”

Clarification Regarding Sale of Decommissioning and Environmental Division
Statement of clarification
IDAHO FALLS, ID - February 8, 2006

This announcement is being issued to clarify recent statements issued by EnergySolutions regarding the prior Scientech Decommissioning and Environmental Services business segment which was sold in October, 2005 to Envirocare of Utah, LLC.

Last week, EnergySolutions, a newly formed company combining BNG America, Envirocare of Utah, LLC and Scientech's former Decommissioning and Environmental Services Division, issued a press release referencing this business segment as Scientech D&D, LLC (formerly NES). This has led some of our customers to become concerned over existing contracts that are either in place with Scientech, LLC or with Scientech, LLC's Engineered Products Division, which comprises the majority of the business that was previously operated as NES.

We would like to clarify that the announcement made by EnergySolutions only applies to the Decommissioning and Environmental Services Division formerly owned by Scientech, and does not apply to the rest of Scientech, LLC, including the former NES Engineered Products business located in New Milford, CT.

We have and will continue to provide reactor and steam generator services and engineered products from our existing facility in New Milford, CT and all existing contracts with Scientech, LLC will not be affected. The D&D group represented only a small part of Scientech's total products and services and all other Scientech segments (including the former NES Engineered Products group) were unaffected by this sale and have no relationship to the formation of EnergySolutions.

New Long Term Contract with PPL
Providing software maintenance to the Susquehanna Steam Electric Station
IDAHO FALLS, ID - March 14, 2005

PPL awards Scientech a $6.4 Million dollar contract to provide software maintenance for the Nuclear Information Management System (NIMS) at the Susquehanna Steam Electric Station. The term of this new agreement is five years, during which, Scientech will provide PPL with the technical support, bug fixes and enhancements needed to keep NIMS aligned with the business needs of Susquehanna.

Contract negotiations between PPL and Scientech began in the fall of 2004. PPL desired to replace the then existing staff augmentation contract with a long-term, strategic relationship that would improve quality, reduce costs, and foster a stable workforce. A team of negotiators representing Nuclear, Contracts, Procurements and IT worked with Scientech for five months to produce this 'win-win' contract.

Under the terms of the agreement, Scientech will open its own office in the immediate proximity of Susquehanna, provide the required IT infrastructure, and manage its own workforce. In addition, PPL has transferred ownership of InfoWorks to Scientech, allowing Scientech to invest in the improvements needed to achieve commercial acceptance of InfoWorks modules like the Security Screening Information System.
